Blog #5: No Way!

Do I think I can live there? Absolutley not! I would not be able to give up technology, not be able to be around anyone or have no toilet or plumbing for a whole year. I may sound like I am very into technology and to an extent I am. I could live without it though, maybe not for a year, but I could not be alone for a year with no face to face interaction. I am the kind of person who loves to be around people, even if we are just sitting there not saying anything. Don't get me wrong I do love to have alone time every now and then, but no way could I do it for an entire year. I would be bored out of my mind and wouldn't even know what to do with myself. I do believe it is possible with other people though because some people are content with just being left alone.
I kind of do agree a tiny bit with Baurlein about how we are so focused on technology and would not really be able to survive without it, but just because we are into it doesn't make it our whole life. Technology is something we were introduced to when we were young and just adapted to it very quickly. Is it really our fault that we are so wrapped up in it? If today's society wasn't so into it, i'm sure a lot more people could care less about it.

  1. I totally agree that I couldn't live in this place for a year! It would be torture. I would miss all my family and friends way too much. Having that much time on your hands couldn't possibly be a good thing. Im sure people could go without their technology after the shock of it being away it first. Some other necessities would be impossible to go without though.

  2. I like the last paragraph where you said that you can see where Baurlien was coming from now. I think that "Feed" really pointed out the potential take-over of technology that Bauerlien fears and made us look at it from different perspectives. I still think that he took his generalizations way too far, but Feed made us think more on his side of things and gave us that sort of 'fear' of technology's potential to be dangerous.

  3. It is hard to say that we can live without technology because we have never really tried it. For me personally, technology has been in my entire life. I've had a computer for as long as I can remember, but just because i had one does not mean I used it all the time. as we got older, technology advanced exponentially, and in turn, it has become an even bigger player in our lives. Like right now, i have my tv on, my roommate has his tv and music on, we all have our computers on and i think the main room tv is on and no one is down there.
